GRADING
GUIDELINES
ISA shall not
use the DAN grades system.
Instead, there shall be following
grades/titles:
-
SEMPAI (assistant instructor,
black belt)
-
SENSEI (instructor, black belt)
-
SHIHAN (senior instructor,
master, black belt or red-white belt)
Coloured belts
for students shall be awarded by the discretion of each SENSEI.
SENSEI shall
be allowed to promote colored belts independently.
Promotion to
SEMPAI title should be done by a commission of at least two
SENSEI.
Promotion to the title of SHIHAN shall be made only by
ISA.
ISA will issue
following titles/grades in following arts:

SHINBUKAN JUJUTSU
separate
titles,

SHINBUKAN KENJUTSU
separate titles
-
SHINBUDO
combined titles, which will cover both Jujutsu and Kenjutsu
titles.
General requirements for all
grades/titles shall be:

PLEASE NOTE:
It is not necessary for national representatives from
other martial arts and styles to receive ISA grades or titles.
Being primarily a sport association, ISA will not make any special
difference between its members based on grades, titles, ranks,
belt colors.
ISA shall pay equal respect to all sportsmen,
competitors, coaches and referees who are actively participating
on national and international championships.
In recognizing or
awarding senior titles, ISA will use leadership role,
organizational abilities and coaching/instructional achievements
as main criteria.

SHINBUKAN JUJUTSU
|
KIHON:
Basic breakfalls (Ukemi), postures (Shizei), throws and takedowns
(Nage waza), locks (Kansetsu waza), holds (Osae komi waza),
chokes (Shime waza), strikes (Atemi waza).
|
KIHON:
Ukemi, Shizei, Nage waza (5 throws per candidate's own choice from all
Kodokan Judo groups and from Aikikai list of throws),
Kansetsu waza (5 judo and 5 aikido locks per own choice of
candidate), Osae Komi Waza (any 5 holds), Shime waza (any 5
chokes), Atemi Waza (any 5 hand strikes and any 5 kicks from
Karate-Do).
Renzoku waza (any standard Judo throwing combinations and
standard Karate-do blocking & striking combinations)

KATA:
Demonstration of self-defense (Goshin Jutsu, Jujutsu Kata) against
basic attacks (punches, kicks, holds, embraces, knife,
club), also participation in Jujutsu Kata competitions under
ISA rules
|
KATA:
Demonstration of self-defense against three attackers, each performing
3 attacks (defenses should demonstrate variety of
candidate's skills in judo, aikido and karate, all joined
into modern jujutsu).

KUMITE:
Mix Kumite (sport fight under the rules of ISA), sparring
and participation on ISA competitions
|
KUMITE:

SHINBUKAN KENJUTSU
|
KIHON:
5 main strikes in chanbara, 5 main guards, 4 parts of Iai
waza

KIHON:
Same as for SENSEI grade/title, all techniques performed
with Katana

KATA:
Three kneeling and three standing traditional kata performed
with choken, bokken or katana, also
KATACHI:
Paired
drills (minimum 8) demonstrating basics of Japanese sword
arts, performed with bokken (bokuto)

KATA:
Seitei Iaido or similar official kata performed with katana or Iaito,
plus
KATACHI
As for SENSEI grade/title

KUMITE:
Kodachi, Choken and Iai sport fight under the rules of ISA:
sparring and participation on ISA competitions

SHINBUDO
|
Combined requirements of both Shinbukan Jujutsu and
Shinbukan Kenjutsu, with smaller number of required jujutsu

kneeling and one standing kata).

Combined requirements of both Shinbukan Jujutsu and
Shinbukan Kenjutsu, with smaller number of required jujutsu
techniques (4 from any group) and smaller number of required
Kenjutsu kata (three kneeling and three standing kata).

technical exams required for SHIHAN promotions.
